A Leader’s Invitation:
As a leader, when you invite people in your team to use their natural strengths to help you create the best outcomes, you can achieve many things: better engagement, their feeling of significance, improved relationships (your vulnerability by suggesting you are not the ‘best’ at everything allows for deeper rapport), collaboration, a spark of intrinsic motivation and so on.
Experienced leaders know it’s not their job to have all the answers, but to coach, mentor, develop others to come up with solutions. To create an environment where people have a framework for thinking critically and feel safe to make mistakes.
But our younger leaders; the ones who just got the promotion because they were ‘good on the tools’, are often not taught these softer skills of leadership.
What ways do you think we can best communicate this to our younger leaders?
